Adequan Helps To Alleviate The Osteoarthritis

Adequan is an injectable substance, which is very similar to the more conversant oral supplement called glucosamine. Adequan is also known as polysulfated glycosaminoglycan.

Adequan has been proven to be specially absorbed by inflamed joints when interjected into the dogs muscles. It pacifies and lubes the joint, reducing swelling and soreness by repressing friction in a natural way. It also helps to restructure cartilage in the damaged joint. Its not just pain reliever, its therapy.

In treating inflammation of a joint or joints (arthiritis), injections are given two times a week for at least 4 weeks for a maximum of eight injections. Injections are given intramuscularly to dogs, cats, and horses suffering with arthritis. A human product has freshly joined the market.

Adequan does all this without potential fallouts. To know its possible side effects, a study was conducted on 24 dogs receiving Adequan injections, one dog developed a painful injection site, one developed looseness of the bowels (diarrhea), and one developed abnormal bleeding. All side effects were classified as mild and none of them required any cure.

Some humans who have used Adequan have reported that it burns a little. After injecting, Adequan upsets some dogs stomachs for a short time. In very rare cases it can cause low platelets, and this is a condition that is reversed upon discontinuing the drug.

Adequan binds to damaged cartilage and advances cartilage metabolism, easing repair processes. Simultaneously, it blockades the activeness of unhelpful enzymes, which encourage joint inflammation, collapse the synovial fluid, and harass the cartilage. Adequan energizes the synovial tissue layer to fabricate novel synovial juice to reinstate the thin, degraded fluid of joint disease. By doing all this, Adequan helps lubricate, nurture, and clear the cartilage.

Adequan has not been analyzed in pregnant or breastfeeding animals. At first 8-dose series is suggested: 2 mg/lb intramuscularly twice a week for four weeks. Adequan Canine is boxed in 5 mL (100 mg/mL) multidose vials.

Adverse Reaction of Epidural Steroid Injections

Epidural steroid injections are one of the most effective treatments of your backache. Researchers have tested that epidural steroid injections provide more relief as compared to pills ingested orally.

Epidural steroid injections are long lasting steroid injections that consist of a mixture of local anesthetic and the steroid medication, which is delivered in the epidural space surrounded by the spinal cord and the nerves coming out of it. Epidural steroid injections lessen the tenderness of nerves, which in turn reduce soreness, tingling & numbness and other signs caused by nerve inflammation or swelling.

Epidural steroid injections can provide both diagnostic and therapeutic benefits. The majority of patients take a few days to respond to epidural steroid injections because of the delayed effects of the corticosteroid.

The injecting procedure is safe, but there are always some types of hazards, fallouts, and complications associated with novel treatments. There is also adverse reaction of epidural steroid injections. The most common adverse reaction of epidural steroid injections includes temporary pain, spinal puncture with headaches, infection, bleeding inside the Epidural, nerve damage, etc.

The other adverse reaction of epidural steroid injections are linked to the side effects of cortisone such as increasing weight, rising blood sugar levels, water retention, suppression of bodys own natural production of cortisone etc. Sometimes the adverse reaction of epidural steroid injections cannot be seen at once, they arise after sometime.

Heel Pain A Plantar Fasciitis Condition Do you have it?

Do you experience intense heel pain when you take your first step in the morning?

If you do, chances are high that you suffer from Plantar Fasciitis and intense heel pain in the morning is one of the conditions of this illness.

Plantar fasciitis is one of the most common types of heel pain problems developed in most people. (including myself!) Plantar fasciitis is a painful inflammatory condition caused by excessive wear and tear to the plantar fascia area of a persons foot.

The pains associate with a plantar fasciitis problem is usually felt on the underside of the heel and very often is most intense and painful when you begin your day the time when you stand up from your bed after a night sleep. The pain will also resurface after a period of rest and inactivity.

While women are more likely to suffer from plantar fasciitis, it affects many who are overweight and plump. You are also at risk of getting plantar fasciitis if you holds a job that require a lot of walking or standing on hard surface for long period of time.

Resting your feet off the weight of your body is the primary method of plantar fasciitis treatment. Since many foot injuries are a result of muscles and tendon imbalances, stretching some of your muscle groups apart from strengthening can help to alleviate your heel pain problems.

Your stretching exercises should concentrate on the Achilles tendon and calf muscles group. These exercises can be done at the comfort of your home to treat the condition and lessening the chance of recurrence plantar fasciitis pain.

Exercise 1: Bend 1 leg forward in a semi-lunge position and thrust the other leg straight back. Hold the position for a minute and switch leg.

Exercise 2: Stand on a step and balance on the balls of your feet with your heels hanging over the edge. Drop your heels below the step and hold for a minute.

In the more serious cases where conservative treatment cannot help cure your heel pain, your doctor may inject steroidal anti-inflammatory medications (corticosteroid) into your heels or recommend casting your affected foot in a short leg cast. When all else fail a surgery might be needed to release your ligament to improve your condition.

Best Beds and Mattresses for Back Pain

Beds and mattresses play a very important role in the keeping your back in good shape. After a day full of twists and turns, and bending and straightening, your back requires good rest. Beds and mattresses that do not support the back properly can add to the back strain, besides, affecting the quality of sleep.

You can find a large variety of beds and mattresses on the market. Selecting the right kind is a matter of choice, but for patients of back pain, it is necessary that they follow the guidelines given below.

Selecting the Best Beds and Mattresses

It is important for people suffering from back pain to opt for beds and mattresses that support their back and not put it under additional stress or strain. Not much research has been done on the type of beds and mattresses required for patients with back pain. However, it is seen that adjustable beds suit people with back pain better. The angle of inclination can be adjusted to a position where the patient feels most comfortable. Patients suffering from degenerative spondylolisthesis do benefit from an inclined bed with support under the knees. They can tuck in enough pillows or cushions under the knees and adjust the angle of inclination to provide comfort to the painful back. The mattress should be neither too hard nor soft. A firm mattress will provide the support needed for a bad back.

Patients with an osteoarthritic spine stand to benefit from adjustable beds and mattress that are supportive. It is important for such patients to wake up with a relaxed back, since people suffering from osteoarthritic spine normally get up from bed with a very stiff spine.

Normal beds and mattresses for patients with spinal stenosis tend to deteriorate their condition further. Such people are more comfortable bending forward than keeping their back upright. As such, flat beds and mattresses are not suitable for their condition. An adjustable bed can be inclined at an angle that stimulates a forward bending position. A firm mattress will support the spinal stenosis back well.

Chronic Pain Relief: An Overview

Everyone will experience pain at some point in their lives. Pain is a necessary form of protection against injuries, diseases, or conditions that would otherwise impair or even kill us. Pain alerts us that something is wrong. Pain can be either acute or chronic the distinguishing characteristic between the two is their duration.

Acute pain usually occurs after a specific injury. It appears quickly and is usually very intense one example is the pain of a broken bone. It subsides fairly quickly, particularly after treatment. Chronic pain, on the other hand, seems to build up over time, and often cannot be connected to a particular injury or condition. What chronic pain lasts in intensity, it makes up for in duration sometimes persisting for decades. Living with constant pain can be unbearable, and many forms of treatment attempt to offer sufferers some sort of chronic pain relief.

One of the most commonly prescribed therapy for chronic pain is medication, both prescription and over-the-counter. While often effective in alleviating pain, these are eschewed by some because of their adverse side effects, which include nausea, dizziness, and fatigue. Others are in search of a more natural form of chronic pain relief.

Exercise, stretching and physical therapy reduce chronic joint pain and muscle soreness and spasms by increasing strength, tone, and flexibility. Exercise increases blood flow, eases joint stiffness, aids in weight loss, and counteracts the stress, anxiety, and depression that often comes from living with chronic pain.

Chiropractic, acupuncture and massage offer three alternative methods of chronic pain relief. Though their methods differ, all of these have helped sufferers manage chronic pain.

In the past few years, researchers have begun to turn their focus on the real source of pain the brain. Although an injury or wound may lie elsewhere on the body, signals of pain are intercepted, processed, and quite literally felt by the brain. Research findings indicate that a multidisciplinary approach to treating chronic pain one that incorporates psychological as well as physical therapy provides the most chronic pain relief. Yoga, meditation, and even laughing clinics have proved effective treatments.

Back MassageA Proven Way to Relieve Back Pain

Back pain is a common ailment; however, people may get better within a few weeks through massages. Massage is known to improve blood flow and eases tension, thus providing relaxation to muscles. While gentle massages are pleasurable, it does not necessarily offer relief to sufferers of acute low back pain. Combining massage with other treatments, such as physical therapy and chiropractic, is likely to produce best results. In addition, back massages, in combination with non-medical treatments, back exercises and good diet, ensures gradual pain relief.

Benefits of Back Massage Therapy

According to the American Massage Therapy Association, research proves that massage therapy provides many important health benefits, including:

Improvement in blood circulation in the body, which aids in the recovery of muscle soreness due to physical activity.

Relaxation of muscles for an improved range of motion. Muscle relaxation also helps in the treatment of insomnia.

Increased endorphin levels. The increase in endorphin levels is actually one of the greatest benefits of the massage therapy. Endorphins are body chemicals that lend a feel-good feeling, which is very effective in managing chronic pain.

It is important to ensure that precautions are exercised while receiving massage therapy. Your muscle should relax in response to the pressure applied by a massage therapist, in the absence of which, it is possible that muscles are inflamed. In such cases, you should not opt for back massages as a treatment option and consult his/her doctor for the treatment. Most muscle spasms require four massage treatments, usually spread over a six weeks period, to achieve best results. If muscle spasms do not respond to the neuromuscular therapy within two massages, try using another therapy.

If you have severe lower back pain, it is advisable that you undergo thorough medical checkup before commencing the massage therapy.

Chronic Pain Syndrome And Chronic Pain Management And Treatment – Part II

This is not only true for chronic soft tissue type pain but also is reported in conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis (20). Examples of chronic nociceptive pain include pain from cancer or arthritis. This phenomenon, allodynia, is common in chronic degenerative arthritis, low back pain, and severe irritable bowel syndrome and interstitial cystitis. Common types of chronic pain include back pain, headaches, arthritis, cancer pain, and neuropathic pain, which … This workshop is somewhat focused on arthritis, but is general enough that anyone experiencing chronic pain will gain new skills to deal with their pain. Although sometimes there’s no explanation for chronic pain, it is often associated with a well-known, even common condition, such as arthritis, fibromyalgia or migraine. This can include severe arthritis pain, severe lower back pain, severe neuropathic pain, chronic migraine, etc. Cats can experience chronic pain due to a number of conditions including arthritis, joint malfunction and back pain. neck aches, knee arthritis, knee arthritis, knee arthritis, knee arthritis, arthritis, arthritis, numbness, headaches, joint pain, severe headache, chronic arthritis, body achesLymphangioleiomyomatosis …

Therapy

It is for this reason that physical therapy programs for chronic pain often provide training in home reconditioning exercises. Antidepressant therapy may be effective in relieving sleep complaints associated with chronic pain. Individuals treated at the Chronic Pain Centre work closely with an interdisciplinary team including psychology, physical therapy, occupational therapy, nursing and pharmacy. Intraspinal opioid therapy for chronic nonmalignant pain: Current practice and clinical guidelines. 2 Sufferers of chronic pain and chronic illnesses may benefit from counselling or therapy as part of their coping strategy. Opioid therapy for chronic nonmalignant pain. Patient chart for review of efficacy of therapy for chronic pain. Patient chart for initiation of therapy for chronic pain. Another fairly new type of therapy for chronic pain is magnetic stimulation. According to Dr.
Treatment

Comprehensive multidisciplinary treatment of chronic pain: a follow-up study of treated and non-treated groups. However, seldom do chronic pain patients with insomnia receive a behavioral treatment for insomnia. Money matters: A meta-analytic review of the association between financial compensation and the experience and treatment of chronic pain. Models of chronic pain management through denial are based on the proposition that chronic pain occurs as a consequence of compensation and inappropriate treatment. The treatment of psychological distress in patients with chronic neck pain after whiplash. Many people suffer with chronic pain, unaware that there are a variety of treatment options that can help them live more normal lives. If you have chronic pain, you should seek out information about these various treatment options. The treatment of chronic pediatric pain would benefit from the development and support of cooperative pediatric chronic pain research consortia. The good news is that safe and effective medical treatment for chronic pain is currently available. A major barrier to be overcome, however, is that chronic pain is often not viewed as a physical illness worthy of treatment. This is the first of a two-part article on chronic pain and its treatment. Ideally the treatment of chronic pain would be to prescribe effective pain medications. When pain persists in spite of medical treatment, as is the case in chronic pain syndromes, the issues become even more complex. The acupoints illustrated throughout this article are without question some of my favorite for the successful treatment of chronic pain. And problems such as constipation, nausea and anxiety that may accompany chronic pain or its treatment can be effectively treated.

Management

One of the problems with chronic pain management is that the brain habituates to pain-killing drugs, requiring higher and higher doses. The interdisciplinary team at the Chronic Pain Centre is made up of health care professionals who have expertise in the management of chronic pain. For all these reasons, it is extremely important that all Anesthesiologists recognize the frequency, consequences and management challenges of chronic pain in this population. The management of chronic pain in older persons. For example, assessment and management of chronic pain in children should be a mandatory part of pediatric residency. Both feature a wide range of links, tips and pain management strategies that will be of benefit to sufferers of Chronic Pain. There are a number of management strategies for chronic pain such as acupuncture, massage therapy and pain-killing medications. The management of chronic pain in older adults. The relative merit of systemic versus neuraxial opioid administration for chronic pain management was not addressed in the these guidelines. The Guidelines recognize that the management of chronic pain occurs within the broader context of health care, including psychosocial function and quality of life. Analyses of aggregate outcomes are essential to continuous quality improvement of chronic pain management in the clinical setting. In addition, research involving people with chronic pain has helped develop effective management approaches. Algorithm for the management of chronic pain. Management of chronic pain in children.

Care

A recent survey of primary care physicians (8) noted that only 15% enjoyed treating patients with chronic pain. The prevalence of borderline personality among primary care patients with chronic pain. care of yourself, chronic pain is different. Knowing what the causes are and being able to describe your symptoms to your health care team can help you manage chronic pain. To equip the qualified clinical practitioner with the necessary knowledge and skills to implement and run a primary care chronic pain control clinic. Tell the patient that chronic pain is a complicated problem and for successful rehabilitation, a team of health care providers is needed. Personal care plan for chronic pain. To raise awareness among the health care community, policy makers, and the public at large about issues of living with chronic pain. Family care Chronic pain, like chemical dependency, affects the entire family. Involvement in the program’s family groups increases understanding of chronic pain and addiction. Expert physician care is generally necessary to treat any pain that has become chronic.

Treat

Now, there’s a way to treat chronic pain without pills but with the simple push of a button. Reimbursement policies should reflect the multidisciplinary complexity and efforts required to assess and treat children with chronic pain. Try not to rely on sedative or hypnotic medications to treat the fear many chronic patients show of activity or fear of increased pain. Interventional techniques refer to procedures that are performed in an attempt to diagnose and treat chronic pain.

Research

Research has shown that the chance of people with chronic pain becoming addicted to pain-relieving drugs is extremely small. …my research with patients with chronic pain and other chronic illnesses in…enormous success. Targeted government and private funding for research in pediatric chronic pain should be augmented. Current research should soon yield ways of formulating and delivering NMDA receptor-blockers that will ease most chronic pain syndromes without causing such adverse effects. The research evidence is strongest for these patients regarding the risk factors for chronic pain. But for chronic pain, research has shown that they tend to make pain worse, causing the patient to need larger and larger doses. Of the little research done on chronic pain, researchers had previously focused on damaged nerve fibers as pain conduits.

System

With chronic pain, the pain signals keep firing up the nervous system for months, even years, either continually or as flare-ups. Recent animal studies have shown that remodeling within the central nervous system causes the physical pathogenesis of chronic pain. In chronic pain the nervous system may be sending a pain signal even though there is no ongoing tissue damage. Much of the identifiable findings in chronic pain patients will be referable to the peripheral nervous system.

Hemorrhoids: A Real Pain in the Butt!

Being afflicted by hemorrhoids is no laughing matter. The pain and itching associated with the condition can be embarrassing as well as distracting. There are a variety of solutions to help you overcome hemorrhoids and we’ll discuss some of your options here.

Exactly what are hemorrhoids? In short, hemorrhoids refers to a condition in which the veins around the lower rectum or anus are swollen and inflamed. Hemorrhoids can be found internally within the anus or externally around the anus.

The condition is often worsened as sufferers attempt to make a bowel movement. Other causes include: diarrhea, anal intercourse, pregnancy, constipation, and aging.

Signs of hemorrhoids are observed through blood on toilet tissue, as well as blood found in and around the toilet bowl. A lump or painful swelling around the anus can be a physical sign as well as extreme itching in the same area.

There are two methods you can try to actively reduce or eliminate the condition:

1. Apply a hemorroidal cream or suppository to the area affected.

2. Warm tub baths, several times a day, in plain water.

To prevent future attacks you can take the following steps:

1. If constipation is a problem for you, increase your fiber intake to bring on smoother bowel movements.

2. Cut back on caffiene as coffee and similar products may exacerbate the problem.

3. Exercise regularly.

In severe cases you may require a physician’s intervention. Your doctor may suggest that affected tissue be burned or the hemmorhoid removed altogether. Other options include rubber band ligation or the injection of a chemical solution to alleviate the condition.

Some cases of hemorrhoids simply go away on their own. In all cases you can control and even eliminate the condition by following the steps outlined for you.

Lower back pain: Symptoms and Remedies

Pain or discomfort in the lower portion of our back and the spinal column is a common phenomenon and can be largely attributed to our changing lifestyles. Wrong posture or inadequate exercise is most often the cause of the pain in the lower spinal column. The treatment of such a pain can vary from a simple over the counter medicine to surgery depending on the severity and the cause.

The pain is generally felt in the lumbar and the sacral region and can also affect other areas. A sprain in the muscles or the ligaments constituting the lower portion of the spine can be the most common cause of backache. Some of the other problems that involve pain in the lower back are disc degeneration due to arthritis or ageing, spondylitis, infections and tumors.

In most of the cases the pain is localized in the lower back and vanishes after some time. However, it may even extend to the buttock or the leg on the affected side. In cases wherein the pain is persistent and increases with time or results in weakness in the foot or loss of bladder control- proper medical check up becomes essential.

In some cases stiffness or persistent pain around the spine can disturb your sleep resulting in further problems like tiredness. Such problems can be rectified by the used of pillows designed to maintain our body posture and thus ensure proper sleep. The use of the wrong type of mattresses can also affect the body posture and result in back pain.
